- How long do you need at Westminster Abbey?
- Most visitors spend 90 minutes to 2 hours. Allow 3 hours if you want to join a verger-led tour, climb the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Galleries or attend a choral service after your visit.
- What is the best time to visit Westminster Abbey?
- Weekday mornings outside school holidays are quietest. Aim for the first entry slot (09:30 Mon–Fri, 09:00 Sat) and head into the Lady Chapel before the tour groups arrive.
- Do I need to book tickets in advance?
- Yes — booking online is cheaper than paying at the door and lets you skip the ticket queue. Timed entry helps the Abbey manage numbers, so a booked slot is usually the fastest way in.
- Is Westminster Abbey open on Sundays?
- No — the Abbey is a working church and closes to sightseers on Sundays. You are very welcome to attend one of the free Sunday services (Matins, Sung Eucharist or Evensong), which include full access to the nave and choir.
- Is there a dress code?
- There is no strict dress code, but the Abbey is a place of worship. Please dress respectfully — hats off inside for gentlemen, and shoulders covered is appreciated.
- Can I take photos inside Westminster Abbey?
- Photography is not permitted inside the church itself, out of respect for worshippers and to protect the fabric. You may photograph the Cloisters, College Garden and the exterior freely.
- Is Westminster Abbey good for children?
- Yes — the free family trail, the tombs and the sheer scale of the building keep most children interested. Under-5s go free and the multimedia guide includes a children's version.
- Is Westminster Abbey wheelchair accessible?
- Most of the Abbey is step-free, including the nave, Lady Chapel and Poets' Corner. Manual wheelchairs can be borrowed at the entrance, and complimentary companion tickets are available.
- Can I attend a service?
- Yes — services are free and open to all, no ticket required. Choral Evensong at 17:00 on weekdays (except Wednesdays) is one of the great London experiences.
- How much does Westminster Abbey cost?
- Adult tickets start at £30.00 online, with reduced prices for children, concessions and families. Always check the official Westminster Abbey website for current pricing.
- How do I get to Westminster Abbey?
- The nearest Tube is Westminster (4-minute walk). St James's Park, Victoria and Waterloo National Rail, several bus routes and Thames Clippers to Westminster Pier all bring you within a short walk.
