Visiting Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey is open to visitors most weekdays and on Saturdays. It is a working church, so it closes to sightseers on Sundays. Book online, arrive early, and give yourself at least 90 minutes to see the highlights without rushing.

- Monday – Friday: 09:30 – 15:30 (last admission 15:30)
- Saturday: 09:00 – 15:00 (last admission 15:00; May – Aug until 17:00)
- Sunday: Open only for worship — no sightseeing tickets
- Closed: Good Friday, 25 and 26 December, and occasional royal or ceremonial days

Best time to arrive
The Abbey is busiest between 10:30 and 13:00. For the quietest experience, aim for the very first entry slot (09:30 Mon–Fri, 09:00 Sat) or the last hour of the afternoon. Weekdays outside school holidays are noticeably calmer than Saturdays.
Accessibility
Most of the Abbey is step-free, including the nave, the Lady Chapel and Poets’ Corner. The Cloisters and the museum in the medieval undercroft are also accessible. Complimentary companion tickets are available for visitors who need support, and manual wheelchairs can be borrowed at the entrance. Assistance dogs are welcome throughout.
How long to allow
Most visitors spend 90 minutes to 2 hours at Westminster Abbey. Allow 3 hours if you plan to join a verger-led tour (highly recommended), climb the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries for the medieval triforium view, or attend a choral service after your visit.
